Blog Entry #3 – 3/29/2012

So the golf course is really coming along. I would say that the three things I am most eagerly anticipating are: the rough continuing to fill-in, the sprayed clover to die back and the short-game area to complete its grow-in. Updating the existing projects… (1) Bunker sand has been added to the bunkers at the short-game and #5 green-complex. We will then focus our attention on #3 green complex, followed by #’s 6, 7 and 17. (2) Mulch is being steadily applied to the outer bed areas and will continue to be a going concern for the next four weeks or so. Overall, I am pleased with the courses’ resurgence, but cannot wait for Master’s Weekend. It may be one of our best yet (depending on Mother Nature)…

Blog Entry #2 – 3/18/2010

I didn’t expect to be posting a second time in three days, but I wanted to talk about our clover issue. Every March, we battle back clover that emerges in between dormancy and the turf’s resurgence in the spring. Every March, we see clover and we start spraying. I have to say that this season is the most aggressive growth I have ever seen. Mike and I were touring the course yesterday and I couldn’t enjoy the tour for all of the clover that has literally spring up in the past two weeks. So, I wanted all of our members to know that we are aware of the issue and have pegged it as one of our top priorities over the next two weeks. Between our spraying, mowing and general growth of the bent and Fescue, the Clover issue will go away, but I wanted to communicate our awareness of the situation. If next winter is this mild, we will schedule our sprays earlier in the season. I think the warm weather and the lean fertility program (a good thing) have set the stage for more winter weeds than we are normally accustomed to seeing….

Blog Entry #1 – 3/16/2010

The past few weeks have seen some really warm temperatures that have attracted more early-season rounds than usual. Although we love the heightened activity, I feel bad because we have been devoting significant time to three improvement projects at the PG, #5 and #7. When we commit to these types of projects, it limits our ability to maintain the little things at the highest level. But, due to the effort of our staff, and especially your two Asst. Superintendents, Mike Richards and Steven Ball, we have flown through all of these projects and beginning next week, we will begin a full-court press on the day to day mowing maintenance as well as additional jobs like weeding, fertilizing, mulching and bunker sand additions. On the whole, we have had a really productive winter, but we are definitely ready to dial the golf course back in for the growing season, and particularly, Master’s Week…

About Me:

I started at TFC in 2005 and have enjoyed watching the club grow and mature. My wife Meghann and I have two little boys, Conner and Harrison, and we enjoy golf, grilling out, attending church and coaching our son’s little league team. We feel very blessed to be a part of the TFC family and look forward to many more seasons of sustained growth and success.

Dear Members,

We are excited to introduce a new communication tool to our website. TFC Turf Talk will be an interactive blog where you can find updates about the golf course, but more importantly, you are encouraged to post open comments that will hopefully lead to productive discussion and explanations regarding our maintenance decisions and processes. So, please find the following updates below and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
